Shipping
When it comes to solar equipment shipping, “zero defect” has proven difficult to achieve.
There’s nothing we hate more than receiving news that a tank was dented in shipping, or a collector’s glass was broken. We employ several strategies to help achieve our goal of defect free shipping, while maintaining lowest crating and shipping costs.
Inspection upon receipt is an important component in our shipping strategy. Upon delivery, if goods appear damaged in any way, use extreme caution
before accepting the goods. Don’t hesitate to REFUSE ACCEPTANCE.
Obvious damage, such as the hole in the carton above, is grounds for NOT ACCEPTING freight. When obvious damage has occurred, please take pictures, refuse to accept the goods, and notify SHEM immediately. Before tanks are shipped, they are outfitted with 2” corner spacers before shrink wrapping. The extra 2” of protection should minimize denting.
Less obvious damage can occur from rough handling or tipping. We use TiltWatch monitors to indicate whether a tank has been mishandled during shipping. Again, in the event there is an indication of poor handling, USE CAUTION before accepting the freight. If you do accept the freight, please note with the driver that freight was accepted without inspection for damage due to tipping.

Shipping collectors successfully is, in part, a function of crating. As the two pictures
below indicate, collectors are shipped on double pallets. The collectors are wrapped in a protective crate to minimize potential for damage. Even with this level of protection, collectors can somehow be damaged in freight. As with tanks, carefully inspect for damage, such as punctures or broken glass. DO NOT ACCEPT damaged freight.

We have tried all manner of shipping alternatives. We’ve learned that accidents can happen, even to SHEM’s own trucks. We can minimize potential for damage, but inevitably, some damage may occur. SHEM provides insurance on all freight. Like crating and tilt indicators, this additional level of precaution adds slightly to freight cost. To provide you with the best shipping experience, the precautionary costs are well justified.
