Insulation Blanket

The SHEM insulating blanket kit is an easy to install thermal blanket designed to fit almost any hot water or solar tank. The SHEM insulating blanket utilizes both high-tech material and simple design efficiencies to produce excellent results at a very low cost.

The Test
The first test was done with no blanket. A temperature probe was inserted into the top into tank through the T&P valve plug with the T&P valve removed. The second test was with the blanket installed on the tank. The probe was inserted through the same T&P valve hole in the top of the tank. The blanket was installed per instructions.

The Data
Data was collected in both tests utilizing a HOBO data logger. The chart below summarizes the findings of our test.

Conclusion
Use of the SHEM insulating blanket provides a 15% reduction in heat loss, given a low temperature tank. Savings with a higher temperature tank would be greater. The temperature loss without the blanket was on average 0.71 °F per hour and with the blanket the heat loss improved to 0.61 °F per hour. This is a 0.1°F difference which is a 15% improvement over the tank with no blanket.
